How are the All-in-Ones more earth-friendly than other vape pens?

Most pouches that vape pens are packaged in are made from what is known as “virgin material”, meaning that it has never been used or processed before, which ultimately has a higher environmental impact. Boondocks pouches are made from 40% post-consumer recycled (PCR) material, allowing them to be created with less waste, fewer emissions, and lower energy usage than standard pouches. The hardware itself is made with 15% hemp-based plastic and includes HempZyme™ — an enzyme that helps break down the plastic within years rather than the hundreds (or, in some cases, thousands) of years that traditional plastics require for decomposition in a landfill.

How do I unclog my vape pen?

A clog may pop up from time to time with any vape or vape pen, but we’ve made unclogging your Boondocks vape pen easy peasy! Turn the unit upside down and blow through the small hole below the USB charging port. This will slowly heat up the ceramic core while pushing air through the mouthpiece, unclogging the unit. An unclogged unit is a happy unit, letting you get every last drop and reducing distillate waste.

Can I recharge my vape pen?

You bet your bottom dollar, you can! Non-rechargeable vape pens can run out of juice before you get through the whole thing, resulting in distillate waste. Market feedback has shown that folks want charging functionality with the charging cable included with their all-in-one devices, so we’ve given the people what they want and included a charging cable in all initial lots.

Can I take apart my vape pen?

We don’t recommend attempting to disassemble the unit, as it could result in injury and/or cause your unit to malfunction. The internal components, wiring, and battery shouldn’t be handled. If you run into any issues with your vape pen, feel free to reach out to our Support Team at boondocks@motiflabs.ca and they can direct you on next steps.

How are Boondocks blunt cases more earth-friendly than other blunt packaging?

All Boondocks blunts are packed up in CRATIV Plant-Based cases, made from natural, bio-based resin and containing no conventional plastics. This proprietary, FDA-certified resin is designed to return to soil naturally while providing nutrients essential to plant life. By using these revolutionary, renewable products, we are removing conventional, petroleum-based plastics that are commonly used for pre-rolls and blunts from the packaging supply chain and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the process.

Are the inserts that hold the blunts earth-friendly?

Smokies/1 Grammers:
Smokies and 1 Grammers use post-consumer recycled plastic (rPET) pre-roll inserts that are made from 100% post-consumer recycled and food-grade materials and are #5 recyclable.

Big Smokey:
Big Smokey uses a beaded foam (EPE) insert that is made with up to 15% recycled materials and less foam than a traditional foam insert. This means less plastic is used to make the material and less plastic ends up in the garbage. The beaded foam doesn’t require any chemical treatment and can be recycled anywhere that takes #4 recycling (minus curbside containers).

How can I dispose of the blunt cases once I’m finished?

The number one best thing you can do for the earth is to reuse your blunt case until it starts to break down naturally. Our blunts are packed in durable, hard cases that are great for repurposing. Our favourite reuse ideas include holding mini first aid kits for your trail hikes, packing rolling papers and lighters when you’re on-the-go, and housing mini spice containers for fireside cooking.

When you’re ready to retire your case, you can remove the labels and recycle them (#5 recyclable). If the cases do end up in a landfill, the plant-based materials will safely break down naturally and faster than petroleum-based materials. The cases are made up of a blend of materials that are also known to degrade in other applications and natural environments, such as home composting. Because of this, it’s best to evaluate the local waste stream when disposing of the case.

Do the blunt cases generate microplastics when they break down?

Nope! While traditional plastics can take hundreds (or, in some cases, thousands) of years to break down and generate microplastics in the process, the plant-based materials used in our blunt cases break down much faster and don’t create microplastics. This material is considered non-toxic for natural and marine environments, earning these cases the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Certified Biobased Label.

How is the Handy Sack packaging earth-friendly?

The first of its kind in Canada, this handy-dandy pouch is made from materials that include an organic additive called Contempure™ that enhances the speed of degradation while maintaining the integrity of the material through a series of chemical and biological processes. Contempure™ is proven to increase the rate of plastic biodegradation in microbe-rich environments, including landfills (where more than 80% of plastics are disposed).

Can I recycle the pouch when I’m finished?

Absolutely! Unlike many other biodegradable plastics, Contempure™ doesn’t degrade by weakening the plastic bonds via light and oxygen, so it doesn’t negatively impact the recycling stream. It can be recycled as a standard plastic material.

What is the shelf life of the pouch?

Contempure™ is designed to start the plastic degradation process only after reacting with microbes found in landfills. That means plastics treated with the additive are just as strong as non-treated plastic. The only difference is the material will biodegrade in a landfill much quicker than untreated plastics. The lifecycle of the plastic in a store setting will not be impacted.
